Indie-yuppie, Yindie, or Yupster?

The mainstream media attempts to coin a phrase.
By  |  January 14, 2006
"Meet the new yuppie: the urban striver who listens to O.C.- approved to find out about ‘secret’ rock shows, considers white indie rock, checks the right blogs iPod earbuds the ultimate fashion accessory — and is a lawyer with a mortgage and a baby on the way. . . . The strain was first identified a few weeks ago by Vice Records label manager Adam Shore, who derided what he called the newly created ‘indie-yuppie establishment’ in an interview with the Columbia Spectator." Seth Cohen: Yupster?

New York Post, May 19, 2005

"We call them ‘indie yuppies’ — Yindies for short. They are well employed, or endowed with trust funds. They think chic gizmos (like digital cameras and iPods) go best with indie rock. And while their tastes are a little more stylish than the mainstream, they’re also sort of bland, boring and interchangeable. (Think: Urban Outfitters, Death Cab for Cutie, KCRW.)"

LA Weekly, January 6, 2006

"[2005] saw ‘indie’ rock suddenly selling to scenesters and suits alike. . . Connoisseurs are crediting ‘Yupsters’ — Yuppie hipsters — for the change. (Need help? Take a look at TheO.C.’s Seth Cohen, who stocks his Range Rover with Death Cab discs.)"
