A royal mess

Letters to the Boston editor, November 3, 2006
By LETTERS  |  November 1, 2006

It has amazed me for some time now how idiotic some people are about the Bush administration’s insistence on ignoring the real international threats we face. How on earth can anyone with a brain still support Bush and his cult henchmen? If anyone can tell me exactly what these men have done to avenge the acts of 9/11, I will gladly listen with an open mind. The only thing I can think of is that they have come after US citizens instead of truly and aggressively tracking down these murderous thugs. But I guess Bin Laden moved to Iraq sometime after 9/11. We have some 25,000 troops in Afghanistan and 140,000 in Iraq, and we just handed over the Afghanistan mission to the UN. You remember them: the ones Bush called irrelevant at the start of his personal war.

The Republican Party does nothing but pay lip service to regular Americans unless they are white, rich, and Christian. Other than that, don’t bother knocking. The hypocrisy of the party is amazing. It took the Democrats 40 years to lose the House and Senate. The Republicans took only 12. Now that’s saying a lot.

I think we should go back to the days of the king, when one man took control and thought over everything. If the people thought the king was bad or stupid, they killed him. All we are doing now is running around in circles blaming Republicans, Democrats, aristocrats, diplomats, liberals, conservatives, blah, blah, blah. Let’s all believe the media because the media offers 100 percent truth . . . no propaganda, no sensationalism. Pure truth. Yeah, right.

Remembrance of things past
Regarding the second part of your editorial “The Mormonator,” I think it’s morally reprehensible that the mayor, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Herald oppose a memorial to the Armenian genocide. Boston was one of the rallying points in raising millions in relief efforts for Armenians. It’s about time there was a memorial in Boston.

System malfunction
If actions speak louder than words, the sheriffs and DAs really don’t support Patrick. Patrick has a clear and documented history of favoring the civil rights of convicted criminals over the rights of everyone else. He offered not a word about Attorney General Tom Reilly’s shameful cover-up of the false imprisonment of 23 innocent men released from Massachusetts prisons in 2004.

I am pleased to note that Reilly is the first of the know-nothing, do-nothing gubernatorial candidates to be defeated. I would be more pleased if Patrick would address the blatant corruption of the legal system in the commonwealth that makes these false imprisonments possible in the first place. I have been falsely arrested once and falsely imprisoned twice while everybody in the commonwealth refuses to address the crime, including the Middlesex district attorneys from Harshbarger to Reilly to Coakley, and the attorneys general from Harshbarger to Reilly. Things are not likely to change when Coakley becomes attorney general. I guess Patrick is too concerned with the welfare of the guilty to be concerned about the corruption of the legal system in the commonwealth.

I do have one suggestion that would help prevent the false imprisonment of many innocent victims of a corrupt legal system. Everybody has an absolute constitutional right in civil as well as criminal cases to legal representation whenever in jeopardy of incarceration. I know of no instance of the commonwealth providing legal representation to the victims of the system when they are incarcerated in civil cases.
