Phoenix Media goes Hispanic

There's a new publication in the Phoenix Media/Communications Group (PM/CG) firmament. This past Monday, PM/CG president Brad Mindich announced the acquisition of the Spanish-language weekly El Planeta.

El Planeta isn't an entirely unfamiliar name here at Phoenix HQ; the company purchased a minority stake in that paper back in 2005. Still, the purchase of El Planeta may change the way we do business — and not just because we'll be getting a bunch of new co-workers at our Brookline Avenue digs.

In an e-mail to staff, Mindich spoke of growing El Planeta and converging it with other PM/CG media. That convergence, he said in an interview later, could impact not just the sales side of things but editorial, as well.

"There are certainly areas of content — whether it's arts and entertainment or politics and media — which would be beneficial to El Planeta readers," said Mindich. "On the flip side, there are probably some things they're covering, from a deep community standpoint, that would be beneficial to us and WFNX and Stuff@night." In short: stay tuned, amigos.
