Doherty, in slinky black and studious specs, brings a steely tenderness to the affecting ballad "My Husband Makes Movies." Kerry A. Dowling, whacking body parts with her tambourine, brings the leering yet maternal seductiveness to Saraghina's "Ti Voglio Bene/Be Italian" that it screams out for. McCaela Donovan channels a bit too much Charo into her butt-waggling Carla, but she, too, sings nicely. Nicholas James Connell leads the able, unseen band, and, of course, Nine earns kudos as a showcase wherein 15 area actresses can strut their stuff. If only there weren't a hole where our empathy for Guido should be.
