The central motif of Agustin Patino's Dialysis of the Planet on the Dialysis Center of Providence on Broad Street is a giant glass bowl with a waterfall thundering inside and fish and people swimming in the clear water. For Patino, dialysis — the medical removal of waste from patients' blood when they're suffering from kidney failure — is a metaphor for cleansing a planet threatened by pollution and global warming. He asks, "What does it mean, this degradation, this contamination?"
