It helps that Trish is portrayed by the irrepressible Karen MacDonald as a woman with a backbone tucked inside her frilly polyester shirts. Less flashy but rock-solid are Ross Bickell as Jeremy — touchingly clumsy as he reaches for his heart's desire before the dying of the light — and Kippy Goldfarb as the undersung Emily. Alexis Camins is engaging as Peter, but the character is underwritten. And Glenn Kubota captures both the intellectual verve and the spectacular selfishness of Koji. The play is written in sometimes-truncated scenes, but director Jonathan Silverstein keeps them scooting along as spryly as the three little sets on wheels. And in Allen Moyer's design, the action is enveloped by a movable feast of glowing bookshelves aptly standing in for the heady home of Harvard.
