Magical figures do join the dance in BIPED (1999), where the live dancers were motion-captured by Paul Kaiser and Shelley Eshkar, then turned into animated dots, streaks, and stripes projected onto the dancing space. I realize I'm still thinking about all this in the present tense. Only Split Sides (2003) is assured of some future public life. A two-disc DVD preserves Cunningham's aleatory process by giving you eight different ways to see the dance. Still, it's only a film of a vanished performance.
