DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION
"Dance/Draw" at the Institute of Contemporary Art (through January 16) looks at how, beginning in the '60s, drawing became a sort of performance, lines became sculptures, and choreographers began to think of dance as vectors and geometry. The theme was stickily engaging. Though the show was frustrating as history, it crackled with curator Helen Molesworth's intuitive juxtapositions of, say, Yvonne Rainer's ascetic minimalist dance with Rashaad Newsome's remixed vogueing. Molesworth is an "it" curator nationally. And with "Dance/Draw" and "This Will Have Been: Art, Love & Politics in the 1980s," which opens at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art in February, she's aiming to reframe the art of the past half century.
