"Not About Paint," at Steven Zevitas Gallery, proposed that New York abstraction today is poised at the intersection of painting and assemblage, looking longingly back to the color bars painted by Morris Louis in the '50s and by Frank Stella in the '60s. Evan Garza (a sometime Phoenix contributor) assembled everything from homespun, geometric sculptures to Alex Da Corte's puddles of fluorescent pink, orange, and purple fruity sodas atop sheets of cellophane on the gallery floor, giving a news flash from Manhattan's front lines.
