Festival Dance (Hummel) was more modern in feeling but more formal in shape. One couple replaced another at each return of a rondo theme, touching off new variations. The other five couples provided amplification, and they all joined in a comradely series of chain dances.
Colin Fowler and cohort played both these works with spirit. They were soprano Kristen Watson, tenor Matthew Anderson, baritone Michael Kelly, violinist Georgy Valtchev, and cellist Paul Wiancko, on the Beethoven; and Valtchev and Wiancko on the Hummel.
