Dancing across the city

In addition to the freewheeling dance events that take place on First Night, local dancemakers will be showing programs from the simplest staging of emerging choreographers to more-ambitious self-produced undertakings all season. One of the most intriguing is a multi-part “Boston Butoh” series curated by Deborah Butler at the Third Life Studio in Somerville and focusing on the influence of that expressionist Japanese dance form (617.669.8580). For upcoming events at venues that include Green Street Studios, the Dance Complex in Cambridge, local university stages, and galleries and offbeat spaces from Fort Point to Davis Square and beyond, check the Phoenix listings as winter gets under way and spring — far off, but not impossible to imagine — comes around again.
