Cosby on Stitt

BILL COSBY
Famous for his quick-talking rhythmic patter, the Cos is another comedian whose skill behind the kit finds voice in his routines. Check out the clip at drummerworld.com of Cosby describing his experience sitting in with jazzman Sonny Stitt. It's a tour de force of onomatopoeic description, with Cosby mimicking his own mellow, in-the-pocket playing. (Well, at least until it's time to play "Cherokee.") If that whets your appetite, get thee to iTunes and check out Quincy Jones and Bill Cosby: The Original Jam Sessions 1969 — specifically Cosby's mouth-sound masterpiece "Hikky-Burr."
