POSTSCRIPT: GET SOME CULTCHA
So now you know how your Rhode Island staples — but that's just the beginning. Providence and surrounding towns have loads of great ethnic eateries as well, many of them dirt-cheap.
For Mexican and Central American food, explore the West side of the city: MEXICO and MI GUATEMALA on the far end of Atwells Avenue, CHILANGOS on Manton Avenue, LA LUPITA on Westminster Street, and EL CHAPÍN on Broadway. For Colombian, try EL PAÍS in Central Falls.
And if you think Asian food starts with chow mein and ends with sushi, maybe Pad Thai for adventure, you're in for a big eye-opening. Rhode Island is home to thousands of Cambodian, Vietnamese, and Hmong immigrants, and their restaurants serve fantastic seafood soups, noodle dishes, spicy stews, and much more. Our favorite close to College Hill is APSARA PALACE.
