She, like Polanzak, stresses the importance of integrating writing into your everyday life. “My classes have focused on how to fit it into your life. How to keep at it, especially when you’re frustrated.” She suggests that anxiety is at the root of writer’s block. She points out that on a day-to-day basis, most people have any number of difficult tasks to accomplish that don’t end up with the sort of mental impasses that writing does. You don’t hear about banker’s block or dinner-making block. With writing, Junge says, “it’s more about the emotions we bring to it.”

When you make yourself write every day  be it a 20 minute exercise or 2000 words  some of the stress, some of the obstructions will go away. “You realize that it doesn’t have to be a big deal,” Junge says. “You can do it before work, after work. You don’t have to work yourself up to a tizzy.”

Above all else, be you aspiring novelist, journalist, business-person, or superior Facebook status update crafter, the key is practice. “If you want to be better at basketball,” says the BCAE’s Polanzak, “you can go to a coach and ask him about ways to improve. But if you’re not out on the court, practicing your jump shot, putting in the thousands of hours, you’re not going to get better. To learn how to tell your story, you’ve got to do it everyday.”
