You’re currently helping to ruin one habitat, the least you can do is help finance a new one. Providence’s Roger Williams Park Zoo, long famous for its polar bears, doesn’t currently have the animals on exhibit. That’s because it’s building them a new space, one that’s nine times larger than their old digs, and “will better meet the high animal-care standards of today’s zoos.” It’s slated to open in 2010. To help, a $35 million capital campaign has been launched for zoo-wide improvements. Your $12 admission might help defray the costs. But don’t drive — take the train.
