beeeeeees9) URBAN BEEKEEP
Bees are important. They pollinate flowers. They’re essential to agriculture. They make delicious honey. And they’re in trouble. No one’s quite sure what’s causing Colony Collapse Disorder, be it climate change, pesticides, parasitic mites, genetically modified crops, or cell phones’ electromagnetic radiation. All we know is that bees are dying off in scary numbers. Save the bees! Setting up a hive or two in your own backyard — or the roof of your apartment — could help the cause. Just make sure you’re not running afoul of any laws (read up at outdoorplace.org/beekeeping/citybees.htm for advice). You could be saving the planet and everyone on it. As Einstein said: “If the bee disappears off the surface of the globe, then man would only have four years of life left.”
