Review: Killers

Did we ask to see Ashton Kutcher as 007?

As a CIA operative in Robert Luketic's spy thriller/rom-com, Ashton Kutcher looks strapping, if nothing else. It's as if you'd tuned into an episode of Punk'd with Kutcher parading around in full Bond parody — not good.

Kutcher can't take all the blame, however. Luketic, best known for sabotaging promising ideas (Mother in Law and 21), doesn't disappoint here. The premise is that Kutcher's Spence wants to get out of the killing game and settle down, so while on assignment in Nice, he meets a bungling blond nerd named "just" Jen (familiar territory for Katherine Heigl), and, without much ado, they marry and move to the warmed-over 'burbs in sunny somewhere America.

The tedium nearly kills the film right there, but then hit-men sleeper cells within the pair's coddled cul-de-sac become active and the film shows a brief flash of verve before thrill killer Luketic works his deadly charm.

If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
