Have you ever fallen off of a lift?
No, I've never fallen off of a lift, and even when we were scouting, a lot of the lifts don't ever get that high. Another true story is when we were scouting, there was myself, my director of photography, and a person from the mountain going up this old, rickety chairlift that they don't use anymore, or they only use it on weekends, or something, at Snow Basin. And right when we hit this one spot I looked down and saw this huge drop, and instead of saying, "This is where we're going to shoot the movie" or "This is where they get stuck," I said "This is where they're going to die." And then the chair stopped. And everyone was laughing like, oh this is so crazy, it's weird, but toward the end of shooting, my stunt coordinator came up to me and said, "Oh you know, you're really sicker than I thought." And they proceed to tell me that like a year before, there was this guy that either worked at the mountain or was dating someone that worked at the mountain, he went there and climbed up the pole, and out onto a chair in the middle of the night, and killed himself. And it was right in the spot where we shot the movie, where the chair stopped and I said, "This is where they die."
Do you have any ski safety tips to share?
Yeah, don't jump off the lift, don't lie to anybody about getting your tickets, and um, if they're telling you that they're closing because of weather: go home.
And don't smoke?
Yes, don't smoke, don't lie, and just follow the rules.
