Roughhewn and spontaneous, the film allows telling moments like an on-the-street interview with Tim’m T. West that’s interrupted by a passer-by who answers West’s gay lyrics with his own more traditional “flow.” “We learned a little about each other,” says West. So will rap fans and potential gay bashers listening to Deadlee chanting, “No fags allowed!” Like the brash gay filmmakers of a decade or two ago, these rappers are out to provoke, not placate.
