Kickin' It Old Skool

Revenge of the Nerds did it better

VIDEO: Watch the trailer for Kickin' It Old Skool.

Eighties nostalgia and breakdancing get sent up in this feeble Jamie Kennedy comedy filled with shots of vomit, unwarranted cruelty, and Kennedy’s sagging, bare-naked ass. Revenge of the Nerds did it better. The whiny Kennedy (the geek in the Scream series) imagines himself a Dane Cook wanna-be with shades of Woody Allen, minus the charm. The marginal plot (first-timer Harvey Glazer directs) has Kennedy’s Justin waking from a coma some 20 years after a breakdancing accident. There’s much for Justin to learn — in addition to the joys of Internet porn, he discovers that MTV no longer plays music videos and that childhood love Jen (Maria Menounos) is dating old school rival Kip (Michael Rosenbaum). The reunion of the multi-ethnic Funky Fresh Boys triggers a fusillade of un-PC misfires as the not-so-fab four try to alleviate their personal woes by entering an American Idol–esque dance-troupe contest.

If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
