The weekend starts early on THURSDAY (the 21st) with a busy SIX STAR GENERAL (three shows in three days) performing an early (7 pm) opening set opening for TWO COW GARAGE at Club Hell (401.709.3923), while Latin/funk/salsa specialists SANTA MAMBA heat up the Hi-Hat ($5, 401.453.6500). FRIDAY (the 22nd) highlights include THE CRIMINALS at the Newport Blues Cafe (401.841.5510), Six Star General and THE BLOOD MOONS on tap at the Pour Farm in New Bedford (21+, call 508.990.1123), and perennial jamsters MAX CREEK host their "Phreek Party" (after the Phish concert) at Lupo's, call 401.331.5876 for details.

On SATURDAY (the 23rd) it's all about the Common Pub — the East Bay's finest live dive — hosting COMA COMA (Chateau Rex is one of the year's finest tock albums) and Six Star General (21+ and no cover all night, call 401.253.9801). The Met offers two great shows to close out the weekend: on SUNDAY (the 24th), be sure the confetti and streamers are ready to launch when THE HOLD STEADY arrive with guests THE FIGGS (remember them?!).

On MONDAY (the 25th), Strange Famous Records presents LA-based lyricist 2MEX along with FREE MORAL AGENTS (featuring Ikey Owens of the Mars Volta); call 401.729.1005 for info on both shows. On TUESDAY (the 26th), R&B collective FELIX BROWN (straight outta Sharon, MA) continue their weekly residency at Newport Blues Cafe, and a local folk/blues lineup at AS220 includes CHRISY GAVIN, CHRISTINA HOLMES, and the Killdevils' JACOB HALLER; doors at 9 pm with a $6 cover charge.
