A fistful of freebies kicks off the weekend action on Friday: WBRU's Summer Concert Series continues with a lineup dubbed "THE ACOUSTIC ROOTS OF PROVIDENCE" (7 pm at Waterplace Park, click on wbru.com); THE THROTTLES rev it up at the Knight Memorial Library's new weekly Live On the Lawn series (6 pm, 401.467.2700); and there's gratis Jewelry District action with the return of the DOUBLE DECKER DANCE BAND at Nick-a-Nee's (21+, 401.861.7290), while TORN SHORTS (ex-Gamblin' Hands frontman Josh Grabert) headlines at the Apartment (401.228.7222) with DENNIS EMSLEY'S HIDING BEHIND YOUTH and GREEN FREQUENCY.
