SO DAVID AND MORGANEVE LEAVE THE SHIPYARD AND COFFEE SHOP BEHIND FOR THE FULL-TIME ROCK AND ROLL? We have indeed! It's been three and a half months now of full-time Brown Bird, and so far so good.

ARE THERE MORE SPECIFIC GOALS IN MIND NOW? We're definitely trying and hoping to keep up the momentum, not only because of the attention we've been getting but also because Brown Bird is paying the bills now. We have a booking agent and more extensive touring in our future.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR SETTING OR MOOD NECESSARY WHEN WRITING THESE SONGS? The album was written while we were both still working, and dealing with that challenge of balancing the band and our jobs. It was pretty exhausting. Dave wrote a lot of the lyrics literally at work at the shipyard, and you can hear that influence pretty clearly.

IS THERE ANY SONGWRITING DONE WHILE OUT ON THE ROAD? It's next to impossible to write new material on the road at this stage — there's not enough hours in a day to drive, eat, sleep, perform, and write. We're definitely looking forward to having some time at home to focus on writing.

The new EP by PVD trio Gertrude Atherton, Isle of Lost Skulls , is a gnarled beauty of a debut and proves to be well worth the wait. I have been eagerly anticipating this record since catching drummer Melanie Fuest, singer/guitarist Shannon Le Corre, and bassist Nicole Lagace in action a dozen or so times over the past year.
