"That's the sacred part of Thelonious Monk's music — from his years playing with traveling evangelists. When I bought my own very first Monk record, Monk's Music, the first song was the hymn 'Abide with Me.' I thought, 'Oh, this is not what I thought I was buying!' And then comes the song 'Off Minor'! It was like, whoa, what a shift!" Moran had heard Monk in an interview saying that his favorite hymn was "This Is My Story, This Is My Song." It became part of the concert — and the kind of shift you'd expect from Moran as well as Monk.
