GOOD-LOOKING, AND PROUD: The Lashes

The Lashes are a good-looking band and they aren’t shy about it: six panels of Get It’s artwork are devoted to doting portraits. But don’t mistake them for some skinny-tie-wearing Killers knock-off. They prefer 100 percent straight-up power pop to retooled new-wave grooves — which may make them an even bigger target for derision than if they were a bandwagon-jumping synth-dance act. They offer no apologies, and there’s no tongue-in-cheek irony on Get It; instead, like Click Five, they relish their spot-on three-part harmonies, hook-filled choruses, and subtly mocking guitar solos. “Nate’s Song” takes the world’s simplest melody and, with plenty of swagger and pout, morphs the would-be nursery rhyme into two and a half minutes of great, accessible pop. When the end result is this classically infectious, trends be damned.
