Just about every SSG release has a quality cover (look up their killer spin on Cat Power's "Metal Heart" from Take Your Teeth Out); here we get a rendition of the Screaming Trees classic "Dollar Bill," and MacDougall does an admirable job recreating Mark Lanegan's gruff, bittersweet delivery.

"Once we start practicing for the next album, we'll try for a couple more covers," MacDougall said. "Right now, Daniel Johnston is looking pretty good."

So what's next?

"Relax and play shows," MacDougall replied. "We have a completed EP from the last two sessions that we may release in a very small quantity this summer."

Six Star General work the live circuit just about every weekend; stop by 75orlessrecords.com for info, and pick up a copy of Splinter while you're there.

I have been eagerly anticipating this record since catching drummer Melanie Fuest, singer/guitarist Shannon Le Corre, and bassist Nicole Lagace in action a dozen or so times over the past year.
