TALK ABOUT "CASHEWS" — THE CONCEPT AND DELIVERY SOUNDS UNLIKE ANYTHING FROM YOUR CATALOGUE. That song is honest art and poetry in motion. It was the last track LJC and I created for the album, and I credit him for challenging me to create something that didn't sound like anything else.

I'M ALWAYS CURIOUS AS TO A LYRICIST'S APPROACH TO THE ART OF WRITING RHYMES: SOBER OR BUZZED AND BLUNTED? SUPERSTITIOUS? I don't drink or smoke, so I'm sober 24/7. I really just let life impact. I don't have any rituals or anything like that, just drawing inspiration from my everyday encounters.

LOCAL ARTISTS CATCHING YOUR ATTENTION RIGHT NOW? I really love what Juan Deuce and Falside are doing — dudes who understand that there is a whole world out there. In the past I think there was this notion here of being "the best in the state" and that shit is corny. So many people wanna hear what I have to say, so why would I limit myself? Fuck that shit. I want the world and so do those guys.

WHAT'S NEXT? Definitely more videos along with some remixes. We have plans to tour following this kickoff show at Fête. It feels good to know that people are receiving the album really well, but it's all still "a work in progress."

The new EP by PVD trio Gertrude Atherton, Isle of Lost Skulls , is a gnarled beauty of a debut and proves to be well worth the wait. I have been eagerly anticipating this record since catching drummer Melanie Fuest, singer/guitarist Shannon Le Corre, and bassist Nicole Lagace in action a dozen or so times over the past year.
