Bands from the blogosphere

BMP 2012
By PHOENIX STAFF  |  June 14, 2012

There were nearly 100 bands, artists, or acts nominated in the Boston edition of this year's Best Music Poll, and yet there was still a healthy debate over omissions. So while this week's issue is dedicated to the winners voted by our readers, we turned to our city's bloggers and asked them to each champion a band that was completely left off the ballot. It's kind of like the Grownup Noise getting to play the 2012 Rock and Roll Rumble final after a band member's injury forced them to bail on the preliminary round. Here are seven bands poised to have a stellar year ahead, selected by our favorite music blogs around town.

BOSTON BAND CRUSH | | Right now, we can't get enough of the Field Effect. They're young, they're exciting, they're incredibly talented; and in a city spilling over with amazing bands, they've got the potential to lead a new wave of Boston rock. The four-piece is made up of Berklee grads and studio dwellers, so their recordings are top notch; but where they really shine is the live show. Their sound is massive but never overbearing, and they play it with boundless energy, delivering each note with a sense of pure joy. Watching them perform, we can't think of another band that strikes us as being as totally, unabashedly happy as they look. It's live music, it's supposed to be fun, and we hope they never forget it.
