"It's coming to terms with this possible emptiness you might feel, where there's not really anything you can do," he says. "And it's also partly about the more positive spin on things — what a child might feel like when it wakes up in the night and realizes it's missing its parents, and it's in the dark, and it's worried, and it calls their name and is reconnected with them. The song is kind of about different versions of loss — loss on the bigger scale, the more temporary scale, and it's also about how amazing that sense of connection to people can be, and that amount of love you have for people."
