But whereas Pants Yell! was distinctly an indie-pop band that tended to cater specifically to twee traditionalists, and operated mostly within that specific indie-pop world, Cuffs' broader approach aims for a sweet spot at the nexus of various scenes.

"If the indie-pop kids like it, then that's awesome, because they are very awesome people to have like your music," says Martin. "But then if we can play with garage bands or noisy indie-rock bands, then that's all the better."

Cuffs have an album's worth of material ready to go, some of which they played through at the aforementioned T.T.'s gig. And since they all have full-time jobs and can't tour much, their main priority as a band over the next few months will be recording those songs.

"My goal isn't to tour the world," Churchman says. "It's just to make a lot of records."
