Okereke's desire to apply this heightened perspective to Four is indicative of his relentless creativity. But it's also a reflection of Bloc Party's fearless ethos — which might explain how the group survived even something so potentially fatal as an uncertain hiatus. "From the get-go, we've made it clear to people that Bloc Party is about taking risks and about pushing into uncharted territory," he says. "And I feel very pleased that with Four, although a lot of people are saying it's a more guitar-oriented record, I feel the way we're playing and the way everything is coming together, it's like nothing we've ever done before. I like that, four albums in, we still feel like a new band."
