Blessed for success

“It has been a blessing working with such talented guys,” he said. “Everything is working out so well, and there is so much more happening now.”

Aside from the wealth of skilled musicians hand-picked by Hansen, he also credits a handful of $1 microphones that Dussault purchased at a yard sale in Maine.

“The mics made me sound like I was on the telephone, and I always liked my phone voice, so we played with the sound and thought it actually worked well within the songs.”

A reviewer accused Hansen of using Auto-Tune, so he made sure to acknowledge those mics on his site.

“That pissed me off because I worked hard on these songs, unlike all these Auto-Tune phonies out there,” he said. “So I had to make a disclaimer just for that one guy who thought he knew what he was talking about.

“I used a weird, cheap microphone — not Auto-Tune.”

When he’s not making music, Hansen is an on-air personalty at and occasional host of the weekly “Pajama Party” at the Parlour. But don’t take his ubiquity for granted.

“People get the idea they can see you whenever they want so they tend to put it off,” Hansen said. “I will embrace Providence while it has love for me.”

Hansen and his VJ crew will be showing the state
plenty of love this weekend, and they hope to spread the love. “We are looking to book some shows outside Rhode Island,” he said. “The next step is to gain some regional success.”

Hansen and his mates already have a second album in the works, which he described as “really organic and different.” They might pull out some new cuts at the shows this weekend, as the band continues to perform with some of the state’s best outfits.

“I am loving our music scene lately, and I don’t know if this much talent exists elsewhere, but there are good times to be had by all here,” said Hansen.

“We live in one of the coolest cities on the planet — we truly are blessed!”
