The “Sibilance” staff was so excited a few weeks back when PARIS HILTON was on the cover. She’s a good friend of ours, obviously, and we’d always thought of her as underappreciated when it comes to her music career. Really, that girl knows how to use vocal modification and pitch correction like nobody’s business. You know who else are underappreciated? The American Idol singers, obviously. Holy crap are they good. Since we want to be just like them, we’ll be at the MAKE ME AN IDOL contest at the Maine Mall, September 10, belting our best version of “Stars Are Blind.” We’re feeling pretty confident since the Studio’s JIM (sorry, “James”) BEGLEY is a judge and we know what a big Paris fan he is. We’re hot!

You may have heard us make mention of ZACHARY OBERZAN in the past. The singer/songwriter hails from Old Orchard, but has moved down to New York City to perform with the avant garde ensemble Nature Theater of Oklahoma and do off-Broadway stuff. Anyhoo, he was recently featured in a German documentary featuring the works of Leonard Cohen, whom Zach covered during a semi-recent performance in Berlin. Pretty cool.

Founding member of Cerberus Shoal CHRISS SUTHERLAND will be making his solo debut at SPACE Gallery September 16, with the WEIRD WEEDS and FREDDY BEAR. That sounds about right.

Former members of the BASTARD SONS OF THE INFOCALYPSE, SWAYLUDE (an old J.HJORT project, actually), and the SARCASTIC LIAR have formed the BARTER BRIGADE, which will make their debut at Geno’s this Friday, September 8. They play “rock and roll.”

Good news for COVERED IN BEES. The Portland punk outfit have landed a spot on the soundtrack for Poultreygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, along with national groups like MOTORHEAD, the DWARVES, and the SKULL FUCKERS. But wait, it’s better than it sounds. Poultreygeist is a project by TROMA, the same studio that put out the Toxic Avenger series (one soundtrack from which featured Portland hardcore group RARE FORM, members of which are now in VERTIGOD) and other B-movie classics that people who like that sort of thing respect. The DVD and CD are scheduled for release at the end of this year, and the film will apparently show at Cannes (though we’re wondering if that’s a joke in the press release . . .), but the best parts are cameos by Ron Jeremy and Lemmy from Motorhead. Look for a local screening at the Nickelodeon.

Finally, the “Sibilance” staff has decided to capitalize on all of our wild drinking and partying out at the clubs. That’s right, starting next week watch this space for WEEKLY LIVE-MUSIC REVIEWS! You thought it would never happen! Plus, with all the extra cash we’ll be making, there will be many more opportunities for hanging out with our good friend Paris!
