Set your browser to WWW.CDPULSE.TV April 25 to support BLACKBRIDGE, a local rock four-piece who’ve been chosen to duke it out in the LIVE INDIE ROCK WARS, which will take place in LAS VEGAS and be broadcast to the world via the ’net. Each of 20 finalists plays a 20-minute set on April 25, then the judges (industry types, we’re told) pick a top 10, who come back the next night for a 30-minute set. The overall winner takes home a $50,000 prize and a two-year recording, marketing and promotional deal. To us, JUSTIN MATTHEW, BRANDEN BARNIKOW, BEN POWELL, and RYAN HAVEY (only one of whom is over 21) seem a little young for the evil that is Vegas, but we’re getting overly fatherly in our old age, so don’t mind us.
Last week, we told you about MARK LOURIE’s gigging class. This week, check out some education being dropped by Portland gadabout JOE S. HARRINGTON. His history of rock and roll class starts at Portland Adult Ed April 30 and runs nine weeks. The cost is $75, and you’ve also got to snag Harrington’s opus, Sonic Cool, as a textbook, but few in town have the passion for rock that Harrington does, or the record collection. Considering the state of the Portland budget, this might be your last shot at the class.
