Have you heard about this giant local show that’s brewing up at the COLISEE (the old Central Maine Civic Center)? Not only does it feature CAMBIATA, TWISTED ROOTS, COVERED IN BEES, the KILLING MOON, and SPARKS THE RESCUE, but you can also hear a reprise of the 6GIG reunion that gets under way this weekend with two shows at the Big Easy, and DEAD SEASON will be releasing their new full-length album. Now that’s a big freakin’ deal, we say. Oh, it’s May 24 — and the Dead Season disc technically drops May 20.
MOSHE and his MILLED PAVEMENT label continues to go global. The newest release is a killer EP combining England’s JAMESPHONEY (vocals) and France’s ZOEN (beats). It’s indie hip-hop at its best, and who doesn’t like smart lyrics (“Their bare bodies resemble Tupperware”) delivered with a British accent? The release is incongruously named Volume 3, but don’t go checking for a back catalog; this is the first release from the duo, who met over MySpace.
Folk songstress VANESSA TORRES has scheduled a May 23 party at One Longfellow Square to celebrate the release of Witness, her debut full-length. It’s been produced by DAVID GOODRICH, who helped MOSES ATWOOD with his breakout disc, and recorded with MARK THAYER at SIGNATURE SOUNDS STUDIO. EMILIA DAHLIN and NORTHERN SPY will help with the celebrations.
Sunlight in Architecture, the new album/project from TREE BY LEAF co-frontperson GARRETT SOUCY, will finally see some sunlight this summer with a series of release shows that will start at Shangri La in Ellsworth, July 19. Featuring Soucy’s to-be-expected expertly turned phrases and impeccable voice, the project has been massaged by producer ANDREW LUCKLESS and sounds like the dusty corners the album’s title implicates.

The “Sibilance” staffers decided it has devolved into mindless debauchery some time ago, but maybe you were watching April 23 when local post-R&B all stars MISS FAIRCHILD had their “Vanilla Place” appear as background music when one of the characters (we mean, “real people”) was no doubt drinking, screwing, or arguing with one of the other characters.
