A Boston Unity Fest sampler

More than 30 MCs will spit at Edo G’s second annual Boston Unity Fest this Saturday, which should prove that the local rap scene is civilized enough to conduct itself without supervision from the BPD gang unit. Even off-stage and in the lab, most Boston rappers who are talented enough to succeed beyond the Bean have been collaborating for a minute. Here are four standout posse cuts.

Awkward Landing featuring Esoteric, “Spikes for the Punch Bowl”
The scene’s newest format deserters – and most explosive live hip-hop act – join Esoteric on a Joe Beats produced bass fiasco. When it comes to quick rhymes and arcane pop culture references, there’s no question whiteboys do it best. Especially in Boston.

Special Teamz. “Home Part II”
On last year’s remarkable Stereotypez LP, Jaysaun, Slaine and Edo G of Special Teamz assembled an extended all-star squad for this veritable time capsule. Unless you live up on Beacon Hill and never leave, local references from Twice Though, Akrobatik, Frankie Wainwright, Cool Gzus and Dre Robinson are sure to excite your Bostonian sensibilities. Sort of like a Duck Tour minus the chumps.

Major Ladies of Boston (MLB),“Major Ladies of Boston”
The Major Ladies of Boston are so sexy, skilled and unfuckwithable that dudes ask them to sign their man-titties at shows. Assembled by Dorchester producer J-Hunt to showcase the city’s top female rap talent, Gee, Animocity, Sheek, Bay Holla and Ms. Aquarius slug for the fences in this tribute to both the Red Sox and hardcore bitch-hop.

Jake the Snake + Slaine + Badnewz , “Get Low (Remix)”
Slaine originally wanted this StU Bangas track for his own White Man is the Devil Vol. 2 disc, but when Snake nabbed it first, the Southie rogue graciously sought a remix verse instead of physical reparations. To complement their tough Caucasian status, Slaine and Snake invited hardly-white Mattapan MC Badnewz, the new don of prolific beat-you-down Boston baked bangers.
