Telling Jessie's story

HOW HAS WRITING ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE HELPED YOU NAVIGATE UNFAMILIAR WATERS? When I initially started writing about this, it was more a means of letting my intimate group of family and friends know, on a nearly daily basis, where things were and what was happening. [T]o call each person and bring them up to speed on the latest developments . . . that would have been just too exhausting. As things began to settle in a little bit, I realized that I had found my voice for the first time in many years. I would take in any of the various challenges in a given day and put them on paper as a means of not just communication but therapy. Reliving something with the benefit of hindsight has helped me to explore it differently, to discover parts of it that are impossible to appreciate while in the throes. The writing part has, I think, even calmed me.
