If only the legal process were about common sense, overturning the Pennsylvania voter ID law would be a slam dunk.
Here's why: Pennsylvania officials have not been able to produce a single example of the voter fraud they say was rampant. In other words, they lied. There isn't any.
Last month, the Republican majority leader of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives gloated, "Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the sate of Pennsylvania, [is] done." Translation: blacks, Hispanics, students, old folks, and others are going to have trouble getting proper identification.
A fetid whiff of Weimar Germany hangs over the Republicans' voter-suppression efforts. Let's hope that in Pennsylvania, at least, the stench is cleansed.
ROMNEY ABROAD
Mitt Romney's incompetence on his overseas trip to Great Britain, Israel, and Poland was so staggering, so mind-blowing, so total that even Republicans like Karl Rove admit he was a bust.
Insulting the British preparations for the Olympics; giving Israel the green light to launch a unilateral attack on Iran; insulting the Palestinians whose cooperation is necessary if ever there is to be peace in the Middle East; and then — just for good measure — dissing the press on the way out of Poland to such a degree that even Fox News complained . . . well, that's quite a record — even for Romney.
The more America and the world see of Romney, the less impressive he seems.
After the past several days, Romney has graduated from being a probable menace as president to a downright danger.
