Why Menino should veto the redistricting plan; plus, the GOP’s Tampa exploits

•New Jersey Governor Chris Snooki Christie almost forgot to mention party nominee Romney in his keynote speech. We agree that Romney is a forgettable guy, but Christie's ode to me-me-me, while delivered with forceful aplomb, seemed aimed at not alienating independent voters who have not yet developed doubts about the Republican ticket.

• Although all national political conventions are little more than made-for-TV movies lacking the drama of even a low-rent reality show, the Tampa convention seems almost surreal, so out of touch is it with the ongoing national economic crisis. The message is: Ban abortion, give more tax breaks to the affluent, support corporate America (which has sent American jobs overseas), and brush your teeth before you go to bed and America will wake up a new nation. It is a pathetic prescription from a bunch of gangsters masquerading as Ma and Pa Kettle.
