One more case of faulty logic: A posting on the conservative As Maine Goes website suggests that Bruce Poliquin may be considering another run for the US Senate in 2014, with backing from the Ron Paul faction of the GOP. I have no idea if that's true, but given Poliquin's monomaniacal pursuit of high public office over the past few years, during which he's spent nearly enough to balance the state budget single-handedly, it would be foolhardy to dismiss the possibility.
Almost as foolhardy as Poliquin running again.
In both his resounding defeat in the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary and his solid thumping in the 2012 GOP senatorial contest, Poliquin proved he's provocative, arrogant, egotistical, and unelectable. A challenge to Republican US Senator Susan Collins next year would add a third defeat to his resume, while allowing her to appear more moderate than she actually is — because compared to Poliquin, everybody looks moderate. Even LePage.
There's one other problem with Poliquin's latest bid for major office. The Tea Party notwithstanding, the law of gravity says this lightweight is never going to rise.
I've got more bad ideas: subsidizing inefficient industrial wind farms, restricting birth control for teenagers as a way to reduce abortions, running independent Eliot Cutler for governor, hiring Charlie Webster to find those black people who are fraudulently voting in Maine, putting Democratic state Senate President Justin Alfond a heartbeat away from the governorship.
