Sacrificial lambs

Which could be a wrong number, because young people are about as likely to vote as they are to use a land line.

Misiuk could face off in a Republican primary against Richard Murphy of Sanford, a Massachusetts native and Army National Guard veteran, who, according to his website, doesn’t like millionaires, which certainly sets him apart from a sizable segment of the GOP. Murphy also promises to abide by the Constitution and to limit the power of the federal government — except when he wants the feds to assert more authority. Which is surprisingly often.

Unlike most Republicans (and a lot of Democrats), Murphy favors higher tariffs on imports. He wants teachers to be paid based on performance, not longevity — a policy most conservatives wouldn’t want the federal government to impose on the states. He supports ending all government recognition of marriage, making it a private affair, even though that’s also not within Washington’s authority.

Murphy calls Social Security “theft by the government” and would end it by allowing retirees to withdraw all they’ve paid in a lump sum. Presumably, those not yet eligible to retire would be out of luck. He’d limit congressional bills to 100 pages, pull the US out of the United Nations, cut off military aid to our allies, and somehow deport all illegal immigrants.

“We have ourselves to blame for our loss of liberty and income,” he says on his website. “The only way to fix it is to replace the current people that are representing us.”

I guess that means he’ll be voting for Shenna Bellows.

We’ll be revising our projections accordingly.

With 2014 out of the way, it’s time to move on to 2016. Email your predictions to me at aldiamon@herniahill.net.
