Down in his colossally cluttered cellar, McBride sits behind a kit and unleashes a roiling salvo worthy of Gene Krupa. He chuckles. Yeah, he suspects he’s lost more than a few nonplussed customers over the years, folks who’ve wandered in looking to browse or buy only to find nary a soul around upstairs, hard bop blasting from below. He doesn’t care.
“It’s good to have everyone come in here and play,” McBride says. “I get kids in here from [the New England Conservatory], they come downstairs to play. . . . It’s been a great learning process, back and forth, back and forth. . . . Someone told me that this is gonna be difficult for a lot of people who used to come here all the time. So I dunno. It will be a loss, yeah.”
McBride’s Furniture is at 167 Brighton Avenue in Allston. Its liquidation sale will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Call (617) 787-7878.
