A'yen Tran, artist, consultant, and I Had An Abortion interviewee

FIVE FRIENDS IN MY LIFE have shared with me that they have had abortions. Their stories are their own to share. But I think it's deeply important that each of us reflect on personal experience as we celebrate Roe v. Wade. Reproductive freedom is more than a principle. The decisions that our new president and the Congress will make about the Supreme Court, funding for family planning, and comprehensive sexual education have consequences for all of us and our sisters, mothers, and daughters. The MCLU and the ACLU are calling on President Barack Obama to lift the global gag rule banning aid to international family planning organizations that also provide abortions. We call on him to lift bans on abortion funding for poor women and expand access to contraception here at home. Please join me in this call to action, not just for principle, but for ourselves and the women we love.
