Wolk: Yeah, that would be great. If every week they could find .... Well, I remember growing up watching Dawson's Creek — this is embarrassing — but every week you'd be like 'Oh, yeah, there's that new band!' Because, remember, they were like really tied into music. So that would be great if our show could do that for indie rock, or just kind off-beat stuff that people dig. That would be awesome.
Mumford: Because that's kind of the tone of the show, too, that it's a little atypical. It's grittier, it's a little more indie, than a lot of other stuff that's on TV.
Wolk: We've been getting a lot of Dallas comparisons. And I think that the reason we're different from Dallas is that it is atypical. It's a little more emotionally driven. I think there's a little more of a depth to it and a weight to it that a lot of those bands bring to their music....
Mumford: And darker!
Phoenix: I noticed that on your show's website it's described as a soap. Would you guys agree with "soap" as a tag for the show?
Mumford: I think it's hard, because "soap" has a lot of different connotations. On the one hand, soap operas are awesome because you really get behind the characters and you're so invested because you can't wait to see the next episode. And we can only hope that the audience will be so invested in our stories. But it's hard because viewers get the connotation of a "soap" just being surface level, and we really believe that our show has a lot more depth to it than just being a surface-level show.
Wolk: [To Mumford] That's a good answer.
Phoenix:You guys have a fairly impressive cast. You get to work with Jon Voight, how is that? Was it intimidating?
Wolk: He's really established. And we were just down in Dallas this past weekend doing a shoot for more promotional material. And it was a new crew, it was a local crew in Dallas, and you could just see the way they were amazed by him. Because this guy is just so generous and so kind and so real ....
Mumford: And patient.
Wolk:... That I was just blown away by him. Because you think that a guy of his stature, that any actor or actress of his stature, Academy Award-winning, would be removed. But he is just so level-headed and modest . And as far as being intimidated by his acting, he's really fun to act with. It's like playing tennis with a better tennis player, you have to rise to the occasion and hit the ball back, you know?
Phoenix:And he seems like he's just a pretty cool dude.
Wolk: Yeah! He is a cool dude, that's actually a great way to describe him. He's one cool dude.
Mumford: Yeah, we were all getting ready in the makeup trailer ... because we were on location, we only had one makeup trailer. So it was kind of unusual that we were all there at the same time and we were all getting ready in different chairs. [To Wolk] You weren't there when this happened.
Wolk: What happened?
