ENLIGHTENED | HBO | October 10 | Mondays, 9:30 | HBO's not rolling out any new epics on a par with Boardwalk Empire or Game of Thrones this fall (they're saving them for early 2012). Instead, they're giving us this dark comedy from Mike White (writer of School of Rock and The Good Girl) about a woman (Laura Dern) who has a public meltdown, then returns to the world with a new outlook on life. Unfortunately, she constantly rubs that new perspective in everyone else's faces, including those of her ex-husband (Luke Wilson) and mother (Dern's actual mother, Diane Ladd). White does good work, and this should pair nicely with the delightful Bored to Death, but still: can HBO just premiere Michael Mann's Luck and Armando Iannucci's Veep already?
