Zeroes from the Aughts
3. LotR: Conquest does not rule them all (2009)BigAngryNerd reviews LotR: Conquest
As licensed games go,
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest came nowhere close to reaching the heights of suckitude of, say,
Shaq Fu or
Charlie's Angels. In fact, it allowed many gamers to finally live out their dream of slaying entire herds of hobbits. But that alone was not enough to redeem this Tolkienian turkey.
LotR: Conquest came from developers Pandemic Studios, who spawned the megasuccessful
Star Wars: Battlefront games. Players' expectations were raised high, only to be dashed on the rocky cliffs of Mount Doom. The game's flaws were legion: wonky controls, miserable camera angles, grating voiceovers. In the
words of Phoenix game critic Mitch Krpata: "It's bewildering, and maddening. The only respite is to turn off the game."
