CHESS: A MUSICAL "Nobody's on nobody's side." CHESS, by Tim Rice and two members of ABBA, is a fantastic and intense rock musical set at the International Chess Championship during the Cold War, where the American and Russian finalists compete for more than the win. The American's second, Florence, becomes the object of both men's affections - and competition, intrigue, and desire play with everyone on the board. With an exciting mixture of 80s rock and traditional Broadway, this production features a 10-piece rock orchestra, an engaging cast, and songs that you'll be humming long after you leave the theater. At the Adams Pool Theatre, 26 Plympton St., Cambridge. December 4th-7th at 8 PM and December 6 at 2 PM. Directed by Sean Bala, music directed by Josh Stein, and produced by Jenny Wanger. Tickets $7 students/$12 general admission, tickets available at the Harvard Box Office and at the door.[more] Chess: a musical

DRUMMER WANTED - HYANNIS Drummer Wanted, Hyannis Area (Hyannis, Mashpee, Sandwich, Falmouth) Contact rick@smartspider.com (and make sure you respond to the email from the spam filter or I will never see your email) The Leaves (presently two thirds of a musically accomplished power trio - a very good guitarist and bassist/vocalist) are looking for a solid drummer to play Cape Cod shows. Our other commitments don't allow for a heavy playing schedule - we are looking for a really good drummer who has similar other commitments and still wants to play out a bit. Our typical week is Sunday rehearsals and playing an opener set on a Monday night at an open mic club. We might play a Saturday instead... we have good equipment and professional chops - we're very tight and we want to find someone who can find the pocket and own the beat. You will need your own drum kit for some things - digital kit is a plus - but we have a kit in the rehearsal space and most of the club shows we play you'll use the house band's kit, so you might do a lot less tear down and set up in this band. We're ok with you being in another band - or having other commitments - just be there for us when we need you - we will give plenty of notice. Here is the set current list - we think it is pretty cool, differnt than most of the bands here... Walking On The Moon - Police The Little Things – Danny Elfman Driven To Tears - Police Bad Reputation – Freedy Johnston Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd Dirt – Phish Bring On The Night - Police Brothers In Arms – Dire Straits We Are All On Drugs - Weezer Psycho Killer – Talking Heads Sample IN A Jar – Phish Cry From The Street – David Gilmour Freeway Jam – jeff Beck La Grange – ZZ Top Have A Cigar – Pink Floyd Substitute - Who Superman - Kinks Some Might Say - Oasis Supersonic/Live at The Metro - Oasis Hey Bulldog - Beatles There's No Way Out Of Here – David Gilmour Tired Of Waiting - Kinks Wake Me Up When September Ends – Green Day She Said She Said - Beatles Catch Me Now Im Falling - Kinks[more] Drummer Wanted - Hyannis

DEBORAH HENSON-CONANT When Deborah Henson-Conant straps on her custom-built carbon-fiber harp, sparks fly. The Grammy-Nominated harpist/singer is throwing her own Birthday Bash concerts Nov. 21 & 22 at the intimate, historic Firehouse Center for the Arts on the waterfront in downtown Newburyport. Tickets available by phone (978-462-7336) or at Firehouse.org. WHY A BIRTHDAY BASH? Years ago, when she turned 19, Henson-Conant decided to publicly celebrate her dread of getting older by performing a Birthday concert. It became an annual event, and last year Firehouse crowds were so big, they added an extra show. Her shows include genre-busting concerts with songs, stories and instrumentals. WHAT'S TO CELEBRATE? Deborah’s celebrating a year of milestones, from the premiere of a One-Woman Musical to a successful Guinness World Record attempt in Amsterdam! “Henson-Conant exercises her musical virtuosity, playing everything from dreamy glissandos to gutbucket blues on her electric harp and singing up a storm.” The Boston Globe DHC VIDEOS AT YOUTUBE: search for “hipharp” WHEN: Fri. Here it straight from one of our artists: "My progress as a singer before I started Bristol’s program was, to be quite honest not that far! I knew I wanted to sing and was taking lessons elsewhere, but I still had no clue how to do it professionally. It was more a dream than a reality." "Since starting the Bristol voice program, my voice is a thousand times better. I know that sounds dramatic but so is the change in my voice. I am learning so many tools that have helped mold my voice into my own sound. I use to try and imitate what I heard on the radio, but Bristol has helped me to find my voice and not some imitation that I thought sounded good. Before Bristol, I had no demo. I recently looked back at my first song, which I still think is great, but I can see now how much was missing. I had no clue about artifacts and tones and those are the things that make that quality sound you hear on the radio." "Like everything else, no one taught me how to promote myself as an artist and the importance of it. In school you study from books, but you really don’t learn how to do it. The Artist development program at Bristol breaks it all down for you and you learn HOW to do it rather than learn the theory of it. I now have the tools to know how to successfully promote myself and dedicate a portion of time to it everyday." "I honestly never knew what was really involved in putting together a show until I came to Bristol. It is funny to look back at my shows and think, oh my God, what was I thinking? I look at my show now and it is completely different and I have learned so much. I can now see what I needed to be doing. It is a great feeling to have that knowledge. The Artist development program really breaks it down for you and it is set up so that if you follow it, and put in the work, you are bound to succeed." "I can not say enough about the program- it has been life changing and that is not some cheesy advertisement. I would not be were I am today if it was not for the program!! Not only has it helped me in my singing but also in my overall life. I am now happier and more successful than I have ever been. I am achieving goals that were once a dream." ~P.P. The teacher made a complex subject easy and explained things in a way that I could understand. I got exactly what I wanted out of the course and more. I had taken similar at [a very prestigious music college in Boston], and I would recommend the Bristol course over the intro production class I took at [the other learning institution]. After taking the course at Bristol, I am now capable of walking into a studio and making a recording using the required equipment." -MK "The staff at Bristol has given me the dream and opportunity to succeed in the music business. With their training, I have boosted my ability as a musician and now as an engineer and producer." B.G BRISTOL RECORDING STUDIOS • 169 MASSACHUSETTS AVE. I used to strain to "belt" out the higher notes. I learned the correct technique during the first lesson. I don't hurt myself anymore! My voice changed completely and became more powerful after 3 lessons with Ric. It killed me in retrospect to think about how much money I spent on lessons with the wrong teachers prior to finding Bristol." J.T. from pop/r&b girl group JADA.[more]
