Out-of-Town Destination in Town - Charlestown

There is something other-townly about CHARLESTOWN — and not just the Navy Yard, the USS Constitution, and Bunker Hill Monument. The anachronistic and clean colonial peninsula feels more like a fishing island than a Boston annex: tight rows of red, white, and blue houses, trees, and the Warren Tavern (historic and homey, unlike a tavern in Faneuil Hall). The Charlestown crowd is mainly local, and easily mistaken for country or Cape dwellers. There’s no Gap, no Urban Outfitters — just good restaurants (Figs, Olive, Tangierino), a very good bakery (Sorelle), and a view of the city across the harbor (from Tavern on the Water).
