Today: January 7, 2011
Waxing moon in Aquarius; moon void-of-course 3:51 until 9:57 pm, when it moves into Pisces. Work late? Forget it. Doing things “not by the book” is advised for all, but particularly Aquarius, Libra, Gemini, Aries, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Cancer. If Capricorn, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, and Virgo are feeling in “free-fall” mode, see if you can swing with it. Imposing order brings no one happiness today.
This week: December 19-25, 2013
The moon is waning, which takes the heat off folks who go into hyper-stress mode during Yuletide. Keep it simple, and get everyone a book. That’s why this week’s gift tips focus on books and writing. Yes, you can read all kinds of stuff on the web, but isn’t it nice to have a book made out of paper to peruse? Plus, no batteries to die.
Thursday, December 19
Waning moon in Cancer, moon void-of-course 11:37 pm until 1:48 am Friday. A day of sensitive but not necessarily reasoned responses, particularly for Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Gemini. Some folks (Libra, Capricorn, Aries) could come off as being “intense,” when in fact they’re just confused. Aquarius, Taurus, and Leo: being vague keeps you from commitment. Gift tip: Confessional writing. Robert Lowell is a true-blue New England institution, and any collection provides insights on the human psyche at mid-century.
Friday, December 20
Waning moon in Leo. A good day to visit the dentist, and if you’re a Leo, Aries, Sagittarius, Virgo or Cancer, your sense of personal aesthetics is high — and you may want to improve more than your smile. Libra, Gemini, Pisces, and Capricorn: a fine day for using the subtle arts of persuasion, or for talking to large groups. Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio: others may think you’re more committed to a project than you are. Gift tip: children’s books. Favorite authors include Tove Jansson (Finnish), Louisa May Alcott (American), and C.S. Lewis (British).
Saturday, December 21
Waning moon in Leo, sun moves into Capricorn, and Mercury retrogrades (sorry!). A superb day for those in sales or who have jobs where persuasion is key. Also good for whining for what you want (particularly Taurus and Aquarius, who whine self-consciously, while Scorpio never thinks they ask for too much). Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini and Libra are in a mood to be entertained. Capricorn, Virgo, Cancer, and Pisces: do something with your hair, why-don’t-you. Gift tip: self-help books (but only if the giftee has specifically requested a title, although I’m very fond of Vietnamese genius-monk Thich Nhat Hanh).
Sunday, December 22
Waning moon in Leo, moon void-of-course 8:25 am until 2:19 pm. The laughs just never stop — but that’s true about nit-picking also. Super-competent day for Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn, Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo. Take care of your health, and if you’re concerned about the well-being of a loved one, you are absolutely in tune with this moon. Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces could exhibit a sharp side, while Libra, Aquarius, and Cancer need alone-time. Gift tip: memoirs, particularly about how people come “up from under” (Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell is still a gripping read).
Monday, December 23
Wwaning moon in Virgo. Today, the urge to “fix it” is the dominant motif for Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Scorpio, and Cancer. However, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Gemini could “fix it” by jumping in without permission. Libra, Aquarius, Leo, and Aries: don’t rush, no matter how impatient you are. Top-speed isn’t efficient for you today. Gift tip: books on how to do something, like repair books, or craft books — e.g., books you don’t read from front to back.
Tuesday, December 24
Waning moon in Virgo, moon void-of-course 11:55 pm until 1:17 am. You better watch out, you better not cry, even if you’re Gemini, Sagittarius, Aries, and Pisces and feeling a little pushed and prodded by family stuff. Harmony should prevail for Virgo, Libra, Leo, and Scorpio, while Capricorn, Cancer, Taurus, and Aquarius will need to cut, trim, fold, and squeeze to make things even! Gift tip: memoir or biography — The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein puts us in the same room as geniuses like Picasso and Matisse — good company!
Wednesday, December 25
Last quarter moon in Libra. A lot of very interesting angles for the moon today, as it pings off one planet after another. Libra moons bring out an urge for harmony and fellowship, and that will go for all 12 signs today! Even that pre-dawn toy-building is an easy job, although any kid can justify a Santa-toy that comes in its box — surely there’s a Target in the Arctic Circle somewhere!

This horoscope traces the passage of the moon, not the sun. Simply read from day to day to watch the moon’s influence as it moves through the signs of the zodiac.
When the moon is in your sun sign (e.g., you’re a Taurus and the moon is in Taurus), you are beginning a new 28-day emotional cycle. Expect increased insight and emotional responses during this two day period. The moon changes sign approximately every 2.5 days, so it’s influence is intense, but ultimately brief. Now, when the moon is in the sign opposite your sun sign, expect some ups and downs. Here are the oppositions: Aries, Libra. Taurus, Scorpio. Gemini, Sagittarius. Cancer, Capricorn. Leo, Aquarius and Virgo, Pisces.
As the moon between signs, it will sometimes become "void of course," and make no major angles to planets. Consider this a null time and try to avoid decision-making or implementing decisions if you can. It is an excellent period for creativity, unexpected encounters, and quirky outcomes.
