Sox: half-empty or half-full?

N4N doesn't know what to make out of the Sox these days. I feel confident that they'll win a game, and they blow it. I wrote off Saturday's game in the fifth, and they roared back to win it. What's going on here?

I was at Fenway yesterday for the 3-1 loss to the Halos, and the home team, as Dan Shaughnessy writes today, looked "pretty flat." When Drew went down looking with two men on base in the 8th, one had to hope the pitch was a bad call. Yet the replay shows it was right on the edge of the plate. How does a ($14 million-a-year) Major Leaguer not swing at that?

In 2004, the Sox underperformed for months, turned it on down the stretch, walked up to the edge of getting blown out by the Yankees, and . . . you know the rest. This team is harder to predict. They can make you proud or bum you out on any given day.

But an online poll at boston.com shows that the faithful are, er, keeping the faith.
